Army Youth Education Support Services:
Child and Youth Education Support Services (YESS)
is responsible for youth education. There are two program
elements to support youth education within the YESS Program:

School Liaison Officer’s Responsibilities:
- Serve as the installation subject matter expert (SME)
for youth education/school transition issues. Inform and
advise commanders and parents on student education
transition issues. Promote parent involvement in youth
education and collaborate with local schools and
installation.
- Coordinate School Transition Support Services, Home and
School Linkages
- Partners in Education (PIE) Initiatives and Post
Secondary Opportunities
Initiate and maintain partnerships with schools and
private sector
Provide programs and services that help ensure a "level
playing field" for Army youth transitioning among
installations and school systems
Coordinate Youth Sponsorship/Transition Program,
School-Age/ Youth Technology Labs and Homework Centers, Home
School Support, Youth AFAP Education Summit Issues.
Instructional Programs Specialist Responsibilities:
- Implement, manage and coordinate Schools of Knowledge,
Inspiration, Exploration and Skills (SKIESUnlimited)

SKIESUnlimited, School of Knowledge, Inspiration,
Exploration and Skills are the framework for the Army's
Child and Youth Services (CYS) Instructional Programs
- It
consists of classes designed to complement and support the
experiences children and youth have in ARMY CYS and in
schools. The goal of the SKIESUnlmited Program is to ensure
predictability and consistency in the availability,
affordability and quality of instructional classes offered.
There are four schools: School of Arts, School of Sports,
School of Life Skills and School of Academics.

Education Forum is a cooperative effort between the Department
of Defense and the Hawaii State Department of Education that
focuses on the needs of military children in Hawaii's schools;
funds are used for structural improvements, educational
materials, and other expenses. Other Army activities include
the Military Culture Course offering teachers professional
development credit, a Transition Counselor training offering
graduate credit, the Army Partnership Reception, and a parent
workshop to help facilitate youth transition. The Army
currently has 45 partnered schools with 38 different Army
units. During the previous fiscal year, the soldiers
contributed more than 20,000 volunteer hours.

Youth Sponsorship: Children and Teens are
encouraged to visit the Military Teens on the Move website at

for guidelines and information to help with their move and
transition to Hawaii.
Are you new to Hawaii and between the ages of 5-18? Child
and Youth Services has a welcome gift for you and a Youth
Sponsor who wants to be your new friend. Families moving to
or new to Hawaii can request for an Aloha Packet and/or
Youth Sponsor by submitting the following:

Post-Secondary/Scholarship Opportunities: Students and their families are provided post-secondary and
scholarship information (e.g., SAT/ACT tests, financial aid,
college entrance applications, grants, etc.). Interested
families may also request a FREE Academic Passport ($5
value) to help with academic planning for middle/high school
and beyond by calling 655-9818.
Homeschool Support: The Child and Youth
Services Home School Support Group welcomes all
active-military, DoD, and Department of Army dependents to
join them for weekly educational activities. The group offers
opportunities for youth to participate in computer classes,
field trips, art classes, park days, workshops, curriculum meetings, etc.
The CYS Homework Centers and Technology Labs are also
available to homeschool youth (by appointment). Contact the
