Delegate

Role:

As a representative of the U.S. Army, your primary role is to identify issues with Army wide ramifications and recommend solutions.  To this end, you need to stay open-minded so that you can see the “big picture” rather than just how an issue may affect you personally.  Several techniques will help you do this:

Techniques:

·        Solicit issues prior to conference date.

·        Discuss implications and ramifications with group.

·        Keep the Subject Matter Expert (SME) neutral and non-defensive.

·        Ensure ideas are recorded accurately.

·        Focus energy on the purpose of the work group – to form a consensus.

·        Respect and listen to other individuals.

·        Stay objective: keep an open mind.

Cautions:

·        Avoid forming or joining cliques.

·        Be positive, not prematurely negative.

·        Organize your thoughts and present your ideas without being defensive.

·        Wait until the other person has finished speaking. Ask for clarification if you think the correct words are not being used.

·        Let the Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) do their job. Do not assume their role.
