POLICIES FOR USE OF

CAR WASH AREA

All personnel utilizing the car wash area will follow these rules.  Personnel from the Oahu Base Support Battalion are authorized to make on the spot corrections.  Lack of compliance may result in cancellation of your car wash or suspension from further use of the facility.

1.     Ensure that water conservation is practiced and that all hoses have a flow stop spray nozzle.  Due to environmental regulations, cars will be washed at the Schofield Barracks wash rack.  Stop washing immediately if water starts flowing over the pond holding the wash water run-off.  Use only biodegradable detergents.  No use of solvents or spray polish is allowed.  Area will be left clean with all debris and signs disposed of.  Garbage cans will be emptied.

            2.     Understand that the posting of signs on trees, power poles, and in common areas is not authorized.  The posting of one sign not to exceed 2’ x 3’ may be posted at the site of the car wash (i.e.          mounted on an easel or mounted on a frame and staked to the ground) on the day of the activity.  Waving hand held signs are prohibited.  Signs with lewd, rude or demeaning slogans and/or pictures are also prohibited.  Personnel will not occupy the Lyman Gate MP shack or post signs at the facility to announce       the car wash.

            3.     Announcements advertising the event are permitted only on existing bulletin boards.  Verbal announcements at meetings and “word of mouth” advertising are also authorized.

            4.     While conducting the car wash, interfering with traffic in the roadway (i.e. blocking traffic to             solicit business, standing in the roadway at any time to promote business, unsupervised children on/or  near the roadway, distracting motorists by using personnel clad in bikinis or short shorts or excessive yelling and arm waving) is unauthorized and could result in cancellation of your car wash.  Vehicles will not be parked on the corner across from the gas station near the fire hydrant.

5.     The approved car wash memorandum must be on site for inspection.  While fundraising or participating in donation activities (to include car washes), soldiers must be off-duty volunteers and not in uniform (including the PT uniform/Unit T-shirt’s and black PT shorts are authorized).  Children under the age of ten WILL NOT wash cars or assist in washing cars.

            6.     The car wash will be used for privately owned vehicles (POV’s) only.  The washing of military,        industrial, or commercial vehicles is prohibited; violators are subject to a fine by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

            7.     Benefit and organized car washing requires approval by the Base Support Commander and has priority over individual car washing.  The Base Support Commander’s office will monitor car washes for compliance to these instructions.  Units, private organizations, and activities not in compliance are subject to closure of the car wash and may be denied the right to conduct future car washes.  For additional information call 655-0497.
